Let us first understand what a meta description is.

A Meta Description (also known as a description tag) is a 150–160 character summary that provides a quick overview of the content on your website. Consider treating it as an advertisement for your webpage.

The meta description appears below the title tag on the search engine, while the title tag appears below the URL.

An example of a meta description is highlighted below.

A meta description is an important on-page factor for both the search engine and the user. It does not improve your page’s ranking right away, but it does help persuade users to click on your website, increasing your CTR.

Now, how to write a meta description?

Step by step guide-

1-Character Limit: A meta description’s length should be between 150 and 160 characters. It is good practice to keep your users engaged with your content. Beyond 160 characters, the user-engagement ratio will be relatively lower. This is because the text gets truncated.

2-Keywords: Try to start with the primary keywords and use them once in your meta description. “Target two keywords in one meta description.”

3-Use Call-to-Actions: Use call-to-actions (also called CTAs) whenever required. You can use CTAs like “Learn More,” “Click Here,” “Shop Now” or “Check offers” to engage more users.

4-No Duplicate content: There should be no duplicate meta descriptions on all the web pages. It should be unique.
